During the failed CIR bill people here were praising Sen. Sessions for supporting legal immigration and I almost shed tears because deep in my heart I know how they hate immigrants both legal and illegal. The only way we can expect relief is a good comprehensive immigration bill but not from ammendments on other bills like the now defense bill.

Hi everybody,
I want to know if somebody knows what is going on with Atlanta perm lab center?I applied in Feb 2007 for perm labor and I checked my staus online almost every day.In jUNE 2007 IT SAID ''CERTIFIED''.My lawyer was waiting for the paper in mail..I checked again the status in July 2007and it said ''In progress''.Can somebody explain for me why is like that? What advice do you give me?

Looks like USCIS did all the easy work in June and now they are getting to grip with the reality (that they cannot process even 140K GC in a year!!!). How shameful. May be all the USCIS folks worked so hard during the last few weeks in June that they would have taken a long break from work after June:D:D
If there is a official press release regarding the visa number wastage, then we can take that along with the July 2 visa bulletin and meet with lawmakers to get some accountability from USCIS. This is BS.

Just a question. Why would you file jointly if your wife doesn't work (i.e. doesn't have SSN)?

Simple answer - More standard deduction with one more dependant as wife
IRS made it mandatory to use SSN because illegal immigrants use ITIN to file taxes. This affected the legal immigrants also where ITIN is used in case of dependants who dont have work visa. If you are not legally eligible to work, you dont get SSN.
The two options left for legal immigrants are -
File separate returns one for self with ssn and another for wife using ITIN and calim one stimulus rebate for 600$
but then you get single standard deduction and your AGI is more that affects your federal and state tax.
If you do the math, its better to file a joint return and forego the stimulus rebate.
There is a catch too, if wife later gets EAD and thus SSN, you can ammend your tax return and claim the stimuls rebate
